It is with great pleasure that I acknowledge these wonderful organisations who have kindly made available public datasets and other information that have allowed me to explore and analyse a wealth of information for this portfolio. Many of these organisations have been collecting data since the 1970's and earlier and from which I have extracted a small section for my analysis. Additionally, I have included links to other companies, organisations and news outlets that helped my research into emissions and forest loss. Thank you all.
This independent organisation sponsored by the European Commission who provides global access to data regarding greenhouse gases and air pollution figures. I used the EDGAR v8 dataset for emissions which covers global information since 1970. This dataset used in my study was limited to the period of 2011 to 2022.
The World Bank Group is one of the world’s largest sources of funding and knowledge for developing countries. Its five institutions share a commitment to reducing poverty, increasing shared prosperity, and promoting sustainable development. Their population datasets have been used in a number of sections in this portfolio.
Global Change Data Lab is a nonprofit organization and a registered charity in the education sector who's purpose is to advance education in how global living conditions and the earth’s environment are changing, through the production and maintenance of public online resources. The datasets obtained from this organisation allowed me to explore global energy production and renewables.
This organisation is focused on two solutions that can together deliver more than half of the emissions cuts needed this decade: accelerating clean electricity and cutting coal mine methane emissions. The dataset downloaded from this organisation was used in conjunction with the datasets from Our World in Data to provide a complete picture of energy capacity, production and renewables.
Global Forest Watch (GFW) is an online platform that provides data and tools for monitoring forests. By harnessing cutting-edge technology, GFW allows anyone to access near real-time information about where and how forests are changing around the world. Thanks to this organisation, I was able to obtain information regarding land area, forest loss and some of the answers to why the world is losing forest cover.
